He imitated singers he saw on television as a child, and at the age of seven, his father took him around Philadelphia clubs, asking if he could sing and do some impersonations.

By the age of eight, his reputation had earned him a spot on a talent show on the national television series TV Teen Club.

He won the competition, and the show’s host, Paul Whiteman, cast him in the show, where he stayed for several years. Here, his name was Anglicised to Bobby Rydell.

Robert Ridarelli sang and played drums in several bands in the Philadelphia area, including Rocco and the Saints.

Faith smiled at him when he put pen to paper to sign a recording contract with Cameo Records after releasing three unsuccessful singles for small companies.

Robert Ridarelli canceled a tour to Australia in 2012 because his health had deteriorated significantly and he required immediate major surgery.

On July 9, 2012, he underwent a double organ transplant at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia to replace his liver and one kidney.

Six months after undergoing double transplant surgery, he returned to the stage in Las Vegas for a three-night engagement to a sold-out audience in January 2013. He continued to perform on a global scale and returned to Australia in 2014.

He died on April 5, 2022, at the age of 79, from pneumonia complications at Jefferson Abington Hospital.
